OOTD: The Eliza Dress

The Eliza Dress from the Alexa Chung Collection on the Rock On Holly Blog

So unless you've unsubscribed from all your emails this week, you'll have no doubt heard about 2 of the most talked about Fashion Collaborations that landed this week... Beyonce and her Ivy Park range (coming to this Blog v. soon...) AND the Alexa Chung Archive Collection for M&S!! Oh, ma, gawd.

As soon as I heard this had launched, I rushed online to see which iconic pieces Alexa had styled up. The range didn't disappoint. Combining Alexas, classic, preppy style with some of M&S's most iconic pieces, the collection is unique yet stylish.

There were a few things that caught my eye, but this Eliza dress stole my heart! The paisley print is retro, but the bright colours give it a modern, Summery feel. I was really surprised when it arrived as this was not quite as I thought it would be like from seeing the pics online. However, I do think it's actually nicer!

I also picked up the Mae playsuit which looks really cute with a white or striped tee underneath, and also the Ada blazer which again, is much nicer in real life! The lining is stunning and the fit is really flattering. A really great quality piece. I was really impressed with the pricing of the range too and am pleased to see that M&S haven't pushed the prices up unnecessarily.

FYI - it looks like this dress is already one of the most popular pieces in the range... I've already seen it being styled up by Alex Jones on the One Show, and also my Auntie Michelle has admitted to snapping this up! (And she's super stylish)

I teamed my dress with my trusty Zara brogues (very Alexa of me) and this vintage jacket on ASOS. I love the Pom Pom detail on the cuffs and hem! It's perfect for the upcoming festival season and the boxy shape is very on trend right now.

OOTD: Denim on Denim

Topshop Denim Shirt - Rock On Holly

So, last year I joined up to a photography course. I have this insanely awesome DSLR camera, that any blogger would be proud to own and I feel like I reeeeally need to learn how to get the most out of it. Disappointingly, the course got cancelled at the last minute as the teacher couldn't commit. HOW RUDE!!

So that is definitely on my to do list this year... (If anyone has any basic tips, or links to good photography blogs, do comment below!) For this post, I sadly didn't have my super-camera to hand so I have had to rely on filters to brighten my pics! The app that I have used is called Afterlight and I seriously love it.

1. It's free
2. It has that really old school, vintage film affect
3. You can layer filters and affects over each other (take that instagram!!)

Zara Handbag and Brogues - Rock On Holly

My OOTD here features a lot of bargains that I picked up in the boxing day sales this year... The bag and brogues are both Zara and everything else is Topshop.

My whole outfit probably cost around £120 which I don't think is too bad?!
Bag: £20 (was £40) Brogues: £40 (were £50) Jeans (£40) Shirt £20 (was £40)

What are your favourite photo apps? I hear a lot about VSCO cam but I've never really got the hang of it...

OOTD: A Grey Day

I LOVE Manchester. Yes, it does seem to be under a permanent rain cloud, but despite the ongoing threat of frizzy, windswept hair, Manchester is actually an awesome city. Just before Christmas, I joined a group on Facebook for Manchester Bloggers and it has showed me a whole new side to the place I call home... Yes, Manchester is giving London a serious run for it's money in the style stakes!

There are so many fashion events and clothing companies based in Manchester. There's a real buzz about the city... Plus, I love that in Manchester the style is so varied, you can spend hours people watching and checking out street style looks! This time last year I was tempted to make the move to London. My boyfriend lives down South and I suppose I was thinking "new year, new start". But in the end I realised that the problem wasn't Manchester itself, just my life here!

I was getting fed up of the same routine and had itchy feet. In the end I decided to focus on a new work project (Rock On Ruby) which has since become my full time job! So Manchester is where I'm staying for now... Who knows what the future holds!

I shot these pictures just near Manchester Cathedral. The weather is bitterly cold at the moment so I kept wrapped up in woolly layers and over the knee boots. A grey look, for a grey day! I have to point out my jumper which I think looks quite Topshop-esque, is actually a Primark special!

Coat : Topshop
Jumper: Primark (£8!!)
Boots: River Island (similar)
Bag: Zara

What was your fave thing about Manchester?

#OOTN: Sheer Shirts & Shorts

So, I hadn't planned for this to be an "Outfit Post" as such, but I was heading out the other night and my sister said that my look was totally BLOGWORTHY.

So she grabbed her camera and literally as we were about to jump into the lift and head out, I hit "pose mode" and got some blogger shots in about 30 seconds. (New blog record?)

From Top to Toe: Shirt Dress - Asos, Shorts - Asos (similar here) Heels - Zara

I absolutely LOVE these shorts. I got them last year before the Pom Pm craze hit this Summer, and they are fab for dressing up or down. They have a lovely tailored quality about them and fit perfectly!

This shirt was a bit of an impulse buy from ASOS. I basically fell in love with how the model was wearing it (well played ASOS...) and just dropped it into my basket! It's actually a shirt dress but tucked into my shorts, it gets a more relaxed feel.

THESE. SHOES.

These shoes are the love of my life. They were pretty pricey at the time, but they are such a statement shoe and really snazz up the outfit, I think!

What's your "go to" outfit for a night out?

Festival Ready...

So with V Festival looming it's time to pack up your tents, dig out your Wellies and organise suitable outfits for Glamping!

I've found the perfect combo:

Shorts by River Island, Tshirt Zaras Autumn/Winter Collection 2012
Gold studded shorts by River Island

What will you be wearing for this Summers festivals?

Fashion Essentials:

Sunglasses - Hide the hangover
Hat - Hide the bad hair
Over the knee socks - roll up if it's chilly and down if it's hot!
Rock chick Tee - see above
Denim Shorts - practical yet fashionable
A jacket with a hood - umbrellas are a no-no
Wellies - goes without saying...

Just go with the flow! xx
