My Skin: Sebamed Review

Sebamed Skincare Review

Following on nicely from my Magnitone review, I wanted to give you a bit more info on the skincare products that I mentioned I was using with this. Introducing Sebamed Clear! Another welcome addition that came from participating in the Bloggers Love Twitter party... The Sebamed Clear range includes skincare products that aim to balance the pH levels of your skin. Yup, remember that sciencey stuff that you probably learnt in school about things being Acid or Alkali? Well, that actually applies to your skin! Healthy skin should have a good level of 5.5, so that is what this range aims to recreate. When your skin is at this healthy level, you shouldn't really get spots - which makes total sense!

So, as with any good skin care regime, I have been cleansing, toning and moisturising with Sebamed Clear for the past 3-4 weeks and these are the three products that I have been using:

Product features:

  • Effectively reduces pimples and blackheads in light forms of acne
  • Mild pore-deep cleansing removes excess sebum
  • Combats the proliferation of acne causing bacteria with the pH value of 5.5
  • The natural moisturizing factors lecithin, vitamins and amino acids help rebalance the stressed skin
  • Vitamin E scavanges free-radicals
  • Skin-related squalane supports the maintenance of the skin’s moisture balance
  • No preservatives
  • Combats pimples, blackheads and skin impurities

Sebamed Clear Face Soap

Clear Face Cleansing Bar
£4.39

Aims: To remove excess sebum and bacteria that can cause acne (spots) as well as fight any pesky spots that you may already have.
Includes: Natural vitamins and amino acids help to re-balance stressed skin
I have to point out that as this range is very much natural and has no additional colours, perfumes etc, I did find that it smelt quite medical when I first got it. Not in a bad way, and at least this gives the impression that it will actually do something for your skin rather than just leave it smelling nice! I like this. It was a bit strange for me to use a bar of soap at first, but it did a great job. My skin was definitely clean and make up free after using this, (when I used the toner with a cotton pad after, there were no signs of make up) and my skin didn't feel too tight as it would with normal soap.

I do think that for storage and travel, I would probably prefer a liquid version of this in a bottle, or to try their foam cleanser, but it was a very good, gentle cleanser.

Sebamed Clear Face Toner

Clear Face Toner
£5.55

Aims:
Remove any excess oil, dirt etc and disinfects pores with alcohol. Tones and refreshes the skin!
Includes: Witch hazel to soothe irritated skin and has an "astringent" effect to help tighten pores. Cucumber and panthenol help heal and moisturise skin!

A great product to follow up after the soap, this is nice and cool on your skin, and a very lightweight toner. This has quite a nice scent to it and I didn't find it too drying on my skin.

  • Witch hazel soothes irritated skin and has an astringent effect to contract the pores
  • Removes excessive oil, sebum and dirt particles from the skin and disinfects it with alcohol
  • Cucumber extract and hydrolyzed silk provide moisture to protect the skin against dehydration
  • Panthenol supports the healing of acne lesions
  • Allantoin smoothes the skin and makes it supple
  • Tones and refreshes the skin
  • pH value of 5.5 stabilizes the acid mantle

    Sebamed Clear Face Gel

    Clear Face Care Gel
    £5.50

Aims: to help heal any spots, that may already exist but without drying your skin out.
Includes: More of that lovely cucumber exract to help moisturise and keep your skin at that healthy level of 5.5

I liked this gel as it did feel very light and I was happy to put this on under my make up in the morning as it wasn't greasy. I don't think it was strong enough to target individual spots, but then it's probably not meant to. This can be used instead of your usual moisturiser, so for that reason I would recommend trying their Anti-Pimple gel on any serious breakouts.

    The results:

I am really happy with this range. They advise that you should use it for at least 3 weeks to see a difference, however, I started seeing a difference within the first week. In weeks 2-3 I started using my Magnitone and this did lead me to break out (just on my forehead) as I went through the "Deep Cleanse" stage. But even whilst this was going on, the rest of my skin was a lot smoother, even toned and more hydrated! I normally get dry skin on my nose as it can get oily and then I use a million and one products to combat this, which wreaks havoc on my skin... With the Sebamed range, my skin seems to be a lot more hydrated and bouncier over all :-)This week I have placed an order for their Cleansing Foam and Anti-Pimple gel as well as topping up on my Toner and Care Gel! So I am happy to keep using it. I do think that if I was just using this on its own, I would need to exfoliate twice a week to get rid of any dead skincells, black heads etc... However, as I have also been using my Magnitone, the two do seem to work together very well.
Sebamed currently have a discount code running which allows you a MASSIVE 40% off the products in their range!! Just use the code SEBA40 (valid until December 2016 on orders over £10)

    My Skin: Magnitone Review

    Magnitone Brush Review

Since I started blogging, I have had some amazing comments and feedback on my posts (thanks y'all!!) and especially on my instagram. One thing that surprised me is that I'm often asked which foundation I use or get comments saying that my skin looks good. Which to me is CRAZY!! I've never thought that my skin was great. I mean, it could be a lot worse and I know that I'm lucky really, but I've always had oily-combination skin. I totally did NOT wake up like this, if you know what I'm saying! So this week, I'll be talking about the products that I have been trialling in my quest for perfect skin...

A couple of years ago, I was suffering from a bit of a breakout, so I invested in a Clarisonic. Well, Millie Mackintosh had mentioned that she used one and her skin always looked amazing, so I was like, THAT'S IT! That will be my miracle cure!! Sadly, it wasn't to be! I think I overused the brush and my sensitive-oily-combination skin just couldn't handle it :-/ I have since spoken to one of my blogger buddies about this and when I told her that I had used my Clarisonic twice a day, she looked at me in disbelief. (Yeah, apparently this is a big no-no?! Who knew.) So, the Clarisonic ended up on eBay and I continued on with my aim to find those unicorn-like products that would shrink my pores, erase fine lines and above all stop those pesky break outs!!

    Enter the Magnitone!

    Magnitone Brush Review

I recently took part in a Twitter chat with Bloggers Love Hub and as a result was extreeeemely lucky to be gifted my very own magical Magnitone brush*! If you haven't heard of a Magnitone brush before, the aim is to give your skin a deep cleanse and gentle exfoliation. Over 7 days you should see brighter, smoother skin. Sounds good, right?

I have to admit, that after my experience with Clarisonic, I was a bit nervous about experiencing the same problem with the Magnitone. But, there is actually a "Sensitive skin" setting on the handle, so I opted for this and used the brush combined with the gentle, Sebamed Clear Face Soap that I am currently using. When in use, the brush vibrates for a total of 1 minute, but beeps every 20 seconds so that you can move this onto the different areas of your face.

    Rock On Holly Review Magnitone

    The Results:

Magnitone do pre-warn you that as you are doing a "deep cleanse" some breakouts are to be expected during the first 7 days, and I did suffer from this. (Funnily enough, the spots that developed were in exactly the same places as they were with the Clarisonic - but luckily not as extreme!) If you do have a special occasion or big event coming up, then I would recommend giving yourself at least 10 days before to use this and whilst your skin adjusts...

I am currently using my Magnitone once a day, in the evening and it really does do a brilliant job of exfoliating / cleansing. I do think that with oily skin, the main cause of breakouts is a build up of dead skin cells / make up not being removed properly etc, so a good cleanse and exfoliation really makes a difference to me.

I have just come to the end of my first 10 days so the breakout that developed during my initial deep cleansing period is now clearing up and I am starting to see the benefits of the Magnitone deep cleanse! :-) I am happy to say that this has now become a regular part of my beauty regime! I think that the Magnitone combined with my Sebamed cleanser is a good combination as the Sebamed clear range is quite gentle on your skin.

FYI: Part 2 of my skin care will be ging live this Friday lunchtime (1pm) with more info on the Sebamed skincare range that I have been using.

The Body Shop - Youthful Eyes and Hempy Hands?!

So, you may remember in November I went along to the Body Shop's Christmas launch party at the Trafford Centre. These are the goodies that I picked up - Drops Of Youth Eye Concentrate and Hemp Hand Protector. Both are two of the TOP Body Shop Products and Best Sellers world wide. So I thought I'd try them and let you know how I got on...

First up is the Drops Of Youth Eye Concentrate.
You get 10ml in a tube and this does go a long way. Basically squeeze the pump down until you get the "smiley face" cream shape shown above, then apply straight from the tube using the roll on to apply in a "figure of 8" motion around your eyes.

I've been using this religiously since picking it up in November and I do really like it. The concentrate has a lovely "cooling" sensation when it's applied so it's great for when you have tired, dry eyes! The main Question!! Does it really make you look youthful?! It's supposed to give you instantly firmer looking skin but, Erm... Kind of hard to tell in the long term? (I should point out I get like this about allll anti-ageing creams. I mean, I'm older and therefore more wrinkly today then yesterday anyway, right? But how wrinkly would I be if I didn't use it?!

Anyway, I would definitely buy it again as I do like to have some eye product to apply and I do love how soothing this is when you put it on, but at £18, I would probably look for some kind of deal first.

Next up is this Hemp Hand Cream - I think this was around £6 maybe?! I LOVE this! I was looking for a hand cream for winter that I could just throw in my handbag and not worry about being too greasy or florally (Ergh!) and this is perfect. I use it every night before I go to bed and it feels great. The smell is quite hard to describe (quite earthy maybe?!) fab if you're like me and prefer no-nonsense products without a sickly scent!

These are the first Body Shop products I've tried in a long time and I am really pleased with the quality of both the items and the packaging. When I was buying these, the staff were really helpful and knowledgeable about the products which was great to see. (Because I was clueless)

Have you tried either of these products before?

Which are your fave Body Shop Products?
