In The Diary: Work It with Bobbi Brown

Bobbi Brown Make Up Lesson

I mentioned on my blog a few weeks ago that Selfridges were running a campaign called Work It to get people out of the office on their lunch breaks and to get a quick beauty treatment... So, I of course wanted to take advantage of this and booked in with Bobbi Brown for a make up lesson!

Now I have to admit that I got the Bobbi Brown make up manual for Christmas and I have really not made the most of this if you know what I mean... AKA it looks good on my dressing table, but I totally haven't opened the front cover... *insert embarassed emoji face*. HOWEVER!! Since my make up lesson, I have been inspired to pick this up and give it a full, long overdue, read! I'm really intrigued to find out more about Bobbi Brown and their products, as some of their techniques seem similar to that of Charlotte Tilbury. I.e, both advocates of a lightweight touch, building up your look, etc etc.

Anyway, back to the lesson! Upon arrival I was greeted by my make up artist Anna who handed me a very tasty looking lunch bag (thank you Selfridges!) and asked me what I was hoping to get out of the session. (I'm still on the search for a daytime foundation that's lightweight but lasts and gives some coverage).

Here's what we used:

My skin was cleaned and prepped using the Bobbi Brown tube soap (this smelt gorgeous) and then a beautiful eye cream and face cream were applied. What I liked about these products is that they include primers so you don't need to layer up lots of different products under your make up. Also, Anna gave clear instructions on how much to use - these products are great value for money if used correctly... A tub of moisturiser can (and should) last up to 12 months!

Bobbi Brown Make Up - Foundation

The important bit! Onto the foundation! Anna recommended the Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation combined with a touch up stick to give extra coverage where needed. If you're interested, my shade was Beige! This meant that the cover up stick and under eye concealer kit that were recommended for me were also the shade Beige (I love how easy they make it for you!)

I reeeeally liked the look of the under eye concealer - it comes with it's own handy powder to set this.

Bobbi Brown Make Up - Lipstick

My fave products from the session: The chunky, hot pink Art Pencil was really cool especially with the Pink Creamy Lip Colour layered over the top!

I also loved the Pink Brightening Brick as it gave a lovely warm touch to my cheeks without looking too garish.

Also, if you're looking for a good nude lip pencil, this shade called Ballet is divine ;-)

MUA Anna completes my make up chart (I'll definitely be heading back for my Hot Pink Art Stick and Pink Lip creme! LOVE!!)

The finished look! Anna kindly gave me a 10 day sample of the foundation to try, so I can't wait t get started with this!

Bobbi Brown Make Up Lesson with Selfridges Work It

I've always been a bit unsure about approaching make up counters as I felt like there would be pressure to buy something at the end of it. However, the team at Bobbi Brown made me feel really comfortable and it was clear that this was a lesson not a "make over" as it were.

I'd really recommend going to visit your regular make up counter (especially if it's Bobbi Brown!) as it's great to to get a refresher on the products that you are using, get some professional tips and advice, or even just to see what's new!

For me, this is something that would be really quick and easy to do on your lunch - when it's not as busy as the weekends!
