OOTD: Portobello Style

Portobello Vintage Box outfit

I do like a bit of vintage.

I have to admit that I am probably a bit of a novice though... There are a few vintage shops in Manchester that I like to pop into every now and again with my mum. But it's rare that we find the time to spend an afternoon rummaging through and looking for bargains. To help spot key pieces and get some good tips, I actually bought This Old Thing by Dawn O'Porter in search of vintage-help!

Recently however, I was introduced to a new idea from Portobello Vintage. Style By Portobello is the UK’s first subscription box that allows you to get vintage items delivered right to your door! Kinda like a beauty box, but for Vintage fans.

If you choose to subscribe, you would receive up to 3 hand-curated items sourced from the famous Portobello Market in Notting Hill. The box is perfect for die-hard vintage fans who don’t get to go to London much, or for stylish girls who like to mix high street with vintage for a unique look. For me, this box idea sounds perfect as I'd love to work a few more vintage pieces into my wardrobe...

What I like about this, is that if you wanted to buy a one off box, it would make an AMAZING gift for a Vintage lover as you can cancel the subscription at any time - or the person can choose to carry on the subscription themselves!

So let's take a closer look at the beautiful pieces that I got in my box...

First up!
This gold chain necklace. It looks like it was probably a part of an old pocket watch - which I love. Gold is definitely more my colour, I really like the clasp detail and the vintage style links.

Next up, the Gold Dog Brooch. How cute is this? I love that it could almost be Ruby from our Rock On Ruby! It has lovely diamante detail and could easily be worn with a vintage shirt or pinned to a bag.

And finally, this lovely cream bag.

I really like that this has a great quality feel to it. The bag itself is really sturdy and looks like real leather. Look how perfect the condition is?! On closer inspection, there are tiny tiny creases and things that show the bag is truly vintage and has been used, but I think that just adds to its charm!

YEY! Happy face for my Vintage box!

I was SO impressed with the pieces that I received! It was quite nerve-wracking, opening the box and not knowing what would be inside... However, that is also the best part of it as well. The Style by Portobello box allows you to try vintage pieces that you might not necessarily have picked up yourself - and that (as Dawn says in her book) is often the key to finding the best things!

At £35, you might think that this is initially a little pricey to pay monthly. However, all the items that I received were of really good quality and in excellent condition. If you have a look at the gallery on their site you will see some of the items that have been in boxes before, and they really are cool.

What do you think? Is this something you would try?
