In The Diary: Ladbrokes Ladies Day

Ladbrokes Ladies Day at the Races - Doncaster

So last week was AWESOME. I was invited to St. Leger's Ladies Day at Doncaster races with Ladbrokes and spent the day eating fine food and watching some sporting entertainment.

Betting may not seem a very lady like thing to do (but then, if Audrey Hepburn can head to the races in My Fair Lady...it's good enough for me). And actually, the closer we got to the race course, it was amazing to see how glamorous and dressed up everyone looked. Gents in their suits and tails, ladies in their fascinators and posh frocks! You could literally spend the whole day people watching.

There was such a great buzz at the venue; not only was there plenty going on in the way of placing bets - there was also a wide range of food stalls, drinks vans and marquees in the grounds.

As we made our way up to the restaurant for our meal, we were greeted with a full, panoramic view of the race course - so impressive!

Outfit for Ladbrokes Ladies Day at the Races - Doncaster

The Outfit: I wanted my look for Ladies day to be simple and chic - let my fascinator do the talking! Also, as the weather was a bit temperamental last week, the old lady in me didn't want to be stood outside feeling the chill all day. How wrong I was!! The day was absolutely gorgeous. I totally should have worn an LBD or floral frock! :-)

The Food:
At the risk of this turning into a food blog, I have to point out how amazing the food was at the Conduit Restaurant. We were treated to three courses from a very tasty looking menu, and also had Prosecco, wine and Pimms on tap. To top it off, we were practically waited on hand and foot by the lovely James - the service was really amazing.

As an extra treat, Ladbrokes also passed out handy "Ladies Day Survival kits" which included all the essentials like hair grips, lashes, wipes and more! Such a thoughtful idea - If you are thinking of heading to the races for a birthday or Hen Party, these would be really cute gift bags!

Bets are on!
Once we had eaten our fill, we waddled (literally) out onto the terraces to get amazing views of the horses racing and crossing the finishing line.

Despite my Grandad being an avid fan of the races, I have to sadly admit, I was pretty clueless! Luckily, Lauren (from By Lauren Jane) gave me a few handy tips on how to place a bet and what to ask for. Still didn't totally get it, but either way, I managed to place a bet on the legendary Frankie Dettori and win! Woo!!

TIP: I should also mention that there were people going round on the day and offering "Accumulator Tickets" which were almost like a Lucky Dip, for anyone totally unfamiliar with Betting. This would have been a great option if I had grabbed one in time!
